Beauty Essentials – Budget vs Premium – Eye Make Up Remover

For years and years I have been really naughty when it comes to looking after my face and eyes, and would scrub really hard with makeup wipes to remove my eye makeup. At the grand old age of 25 I’ve already started to see the effects of this with tiny wrinkles around the eyes, so I am now trying my best to take better care of my skin before it’s too late!

Again, because of the cheeky little £5 off Boots No7 voucher, I decided to give their eye makeup remover a go!

The formula is separated into 2 parts – a blue oil and a clear aqueous ‘phase’. You have to give the bottle a shake to combine the 2 before using, pop a little bit onto a cotton pad and then swipe over your eyes to remove your makeup.

It is SO much more effective than makeup wipes, and gently removes even waterproof mascara. The solution is supposed to condition while it cleanses, and does leave your skin a little greasy, but that doesn’t matter so much when you’re just off to bed afterwards. And there is no cap or nozzle on the bottle so if you’re a bit cack-handed like me you need to be super-careful when pouring or it’ll go everywhere!

All in all, I was very pleased with the No7 eye makeup remover. However one day when I was buying Colin (cat) his dinner in Wilko I spotted the little Nivea number! It looked exactly the same as the No7 – blue oil and clear aqueous solution – and is more than half the price (it was also on offer at this stage for £2, which happens quite often so even better!!)

I decided to see how it compared, and was so impressed!! Firstly, once shaken up the solution stays combined for much longer than the No7 – which separates almost instantly and has to be re-shaken between each cotton pad. It also has a much smaller dispensing hole (not sure what the technical term is!) so no more spillages! It removes all eye makeup just as well as the No7, and last but joy least it doesn’t leave your eyes feeling greasy!

Verdict: I have totally converted to the Nivea Double Effect Eye Make Up Remover!! Not only does it save a few pennies, but I also genuinely prefer it as a product! I’d definitely recommend 😊

Thanks for the review! I wish I saw this post earlier! I have been looking for a make up remover today and couldn’t decide which one to get 🙂 I couldn’t find in the store the one I usual use so had to select from some other brands and ended up with nothing. Tomorrow I will give Nivea a try 🙂

You are so funny! “Grand old age of 25”? Try 42! I usually use Take the Day Off by Clinique, but the Nivea would save money. I will have to try it! Great post!
